Hi everyone,
Finally after a year and a half of persuasion, Airtel is finally in our area and will be installing their connection in our building this week. I think I will be going for the 100 Mbps plan for 3 months (which will save me installation fees).
As mentioned in an earlier post, I do heavy BitTorrenting and with the whole CG-NAT issue, torrenting might be a problem now, especially for torrents that have very few seeds and rely on port forwarding to get remote connections. At the moment on my MTNL ADSL connection, I just use a random port in BitTorrent e.g. 22211, and then forward that port in my ADSL router.
1) Will asking them to enable bridge mode in the Airtel router allow me to port forward? I have two wireless routers with me at the moment - a TP-Link TD-W8960N ADSL+ modem-router (my current ADSL router for my MTNL connection) and an old TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND wireless router, either of which I can use for the bridge mode. Also does bridge mode affect speeds?
2) If not through the bridge mode method, is there any other method which will allow me to port forward without spending additional money e.g. static IP? I saw this video on YouTube: How to Port Forward in Jio Fiber/Airtel Xstream router. Will this work?
3) If possible, what model of Airtel router should I request for? They said most probably I'll be getting a Nokia one.
4) Is it better to enter DNS settings (I use Cloudflare DNS) on each device e.g. PC and mobile, or should I enter it in the Airtel router. Some of the posts I'm reading here, most of the WAN settings are locked in the new modems. Will enabling the bridge mode from their end enable me to edit these settings as well?
5) Are certain websites blocked on Airtel Broadband? For websites blocked on MTNL, I use GoodbyeDPI. Will this software work on Airtel too?
Thanks in advance.
