Anyway, regarding your query, your
router settings can't be lost due to loss of data from your hard disk, because these settings are stored in your router itself. What you might need to do is install drivers for your your LAN Card, and then set it up. If you are using
Windows XP, you don't need to do anything. Just goto Network Connections (in control panel).
Right click on 'Local Area Connection' and select properties.
Select TCP/IP properties over here. Now set your IP address to 192.168.1.x (Here x can be anything between 2-40), Subnet
Mask to 255.255.255.0 and Default Gateway to 192.168.1.1.
