Hi All,

I'm using a BSNL FTTH connection with a Netlink ONT, but it doesn’t always work properly. So, I bought a TP-Link XZ000-G7 Gigabit XPON Terminal since I already have a TP-Link AX3000 Router.

I read some reviews on Flipkart and a YouTube comment about the TP-Link XZ000-G7, and based on that, I set it up like this:

TP-Link XZ000-G7:
  • VLAN Mode: VLAN TAG Mode
  • VLAN ID: (BSNL VLAN ID configured in the Netlink ONT admin page)
  • Priority: 1
The XZ000-G7 shows ‘EPON Registered’ as the status.

TP-Link AX3000 Router:
  • PPPoE Username: Got it from the Netlink ONT admin page.
  • PPPoE Password: Exported the Netlink ONT config and got the password from the downloaded XML file.
  • Custom MAC Address: Took the MAC address from the Netlink ONT WAN info page and set it as the custom MAC address.
Netlink ONT Model No: HG828RGW

I connected the Ethernet cable from the XZ000-G7’s LAN port to the AX3000 Router’s WAN port, but I still can’t get an internet connection. The AX3000 isn’t receiving an IP address, Primary DNS, or Secondary DNS from the OLT.

I checked the router logs, and it shows "Password Verification Fail." I got the PPPoE password from the XML file, but I’m not sure if it’s encrypted, base64, or something else. The password is 8 characters long and only has lowercase letters.

Currently, the internet is working with the Netlink ONT.

Could you please help to resolve the issue?

From what I know, this device is notorious for not working on EPON mode, especially ISPs that require MAC cloning. Also you are not receiving any communication packets with the OLT/OMCI, so there must be some issue.

I have this exact issue on Excitel and was not able to come up with any solution. As soon as the device detects EPON mode, the option to clone the MAC of the GPON disappears. Spoofing the PPPoE dialer's MAC has no effect on the authentication. The O5 state shown on G7 is probably fake.

In a normal situation you first clone the S/N and MAC of the PON terminal of the ONU given by the ISP onto the new ONU. Once the OLT authenticates, you simply dial using your PPPoE dialer modem. You may spoof the original ONU's MAC (not the PON terminal) as the PPPoE client's MAC.

Hi @Saket
It’s working now after using the password 'password.' I had tried that before posting my question in the forum and still got the same error. I reset the configuration on the AX3000 router, tried again with 'password' as the password, and now the router is getting the IP address, Primary DNS, and Secondary DNS from the OLT. :)

Thanks.

@RajaTamil
PS: also noted your RX Power is low. Reason could be; you might be plugging SC UPC (blue colour) fiber patch cord into SC APC (Green colour) port of TP-Link ONT, Resulting in power loss.
Try to get RX around -20 (+-2), it will definitely improve your network performance.
Solution: you need to replace fiber patch cord from blue to green

@Saket, I need to speak with my LCO to change my patch cord from blue to green.

The Netlink ONT has an SC UPC port (blue), while the XZ000-G7 has an SC APC port (green). I'm a bit confused about changing the patch cord. Currently, I have an SC UPC patch cord (blue). If I ask my LCO to change my SC UPC patch cord to SC APC, it should work fine with the XZ000-G7. However, if I switch back to the Netlink modem, I will likely experience power loss, right? I'm not sure why different brands are using different ports.

As you mentioned, I am seeing power loss when plugging my SC UPC patch cord into both the Netlink ONT and the XZ000-G7.

Netlink ONT RX: -24.55
XZ000-G7 RX: -27.70

@RajaTamil you can get a hybrid kind of patch cord from Amazon/flipkart (search "nextik apc to upc") or market with apc and upc on either end, along with an sc coupler (color doesn't matter in couplers). i got both for Rs. 70 in local market. this will make it very convenient to switch b/w types. there is virtually no loss at all this way.
