Forget those praises. There are authors on both side who visit the other side and write friendly editorials for each side to read and cherish. These are certain authors who carry this sort of philosophy. Aman ki Asha project is probably a brain child of one of these philosophers. I don't put too much weight in a TOI survey one conducted by a professional pollster otoh is different.

Before India was partitioned in 1947, some of the Muslim elite in India, who were later to go to Pakistan, considered themselves the descendants of the Mughals who had ruled vast tracts of India. When the British were set to leave India, it was realised by these real or perceived descendants of Mughals that in a democratic India, they would not automatically regain control of the lands they had lost to the British. The demand for a separate nation was a natural extension of this Mughal mindset. This group of individuals formed a migrant
nation.

Shiv is talking about history through the eye's of the RAPE which is a candid demystification. Im talking through the eye's of the current educated stock of pakistan. For them, after an array of thoughts, the blame lands on india for pakistans current predicament.

I would agree with that but only with the benefit of hindsight --muslims in india are not necessarily worse off. Who could have forseen the Paks would screw up to this extent.

Had we stated a firm no at the time, this mess would never have been created. We took democracy at its word and 'gave' them Pakistan

Ultimately this is a useless argument tho because without hindsight its impossible to have known in 1947.

Page 77 has an interesting para.

Pakistanis did not see things that way. They saw themselves as Muslims, and Pakistani leaders assumed that the Muslims remaining in India would automatically rise up and revolt, and that India would fragment and break. They were wrong. The initial fragmentation and breaking that occurred at partition, continued in Pakistan, with the formation of Bangladesh. Pakistan had filled itself with people whose intent was less to live and work in harmony, and more to live away from some group or the other.

Agreed, the psyche chapter is an informative read, a very determined mindset.
