i am getting a connection today, and i have requested them to give me a basic non wifi ONU, they have initially agreed, let's see what happens ... i am planning to get a dumb onu so that i can use it in bridge mode...

@eatpepsi the same thing had happened to me. they agreed to give the dumb ONU and enable bridge mode while booking. but after payment. nobody helped.
So if you are in need of bridge mode and do not want a connection without it, do not get the connection installed if the installation guy comes with wifi ONU. He might promise you that he will change it later but he won't help after that.

@imdarkray thanks.. Although I have made the payment, I have clearly refused to get the line installed without a dumb onu, they are trying to procure it and have postponed the installation... Let's see.. I will post the developments in this thread...

@JB701 can you share the model number of your opti link gigabit onu, so that i can ask my excitel people to provide me with the same

ok so today the wiring was done and the cable was brought up to my room, everything was ok until he pulled out the optilink wifi router. I stopped him and told him that this device will not allow me to use the connection in bridge mode.
So he put me on a call with a technical person, I told him the issue, and he understood and said that the only way I can avoid the double NAT is if they use a 1G dumb ONU. I asked them to supply me with the same. So they agreed and didn't do the activation, they said they will get the dumb onu by evening or tomorrow and then activate the connection. This is the story so far ....

thanks @JB701 i have asked the excitel LCO to get me the same

I had to pay them a 1000 bucks for the dumb ONU. Got it.
It is not worth half the price, but I was tired of playing cat and mouse with excitel.
Now it is in bridge mode and I am able to use the connection just fine.

how long before were you able to secure it lol?

honestly, if this is about money (to compensate for the installation charges), excitel should just offer the dumb onu for 2000 rupees. from the looks if it, they just want their shitty ad ssid on all their routers. which hopefully one day would become a big enough issue for trai to look into.

They are willing to offer the router or the dumb onu at the time of installation, just that once you take the router, it cannot be changed.
The router is free with a 3 month plan, but if you want the onu, you need to go with the one month plan and pay a 1000 bucks for it.
Absolutely bonehead policy.
