O.T. Does the refrigerator too needs a gas refill?
My decade old refrigerator takes a long time to get cooled. Stop criticizing me for using it still.....by the way the question i asked is a serious one.
works the same way as ac nd needs a gas refill...if stops cooling

so the AC guys arrived today. they checked the AC. could not notice any leakage. tried to find any other problem with the AC that could have been the reason behind it not cooling. could not locate anything again. finally, they decided to refill the gas. AC finally woke up. sort of worked fine. Since I am now used to a Hitachi Window AC that works like a rocket... I found the 6 year old Carrier Split sort of disappointing. it is dead silent (which is what i loved about it when it was my primary AC). at least the Carrier guys are now responsible for 6 months. from what i see, i would be using it for at max 3/4 months.

i tried the local guys first. they were too lazy to respond. called carrier helpline. they arrived first! i have been trying hard to get someone to fix my AC for the last 3 days :D i am happy that it finally works. now have to get airtel to do the wiring back at my place tomorrow. need that 1999 2mbps connection to get installed.

If the door of the fridge does not close properly it could also result in cooling problems. Check if the door sealing gasket is torn or gone out of shape . Even if it seems to be ok there could be small gaps.... try jamming the door tight by leaning a heavy chair or something against it and see if there is any improvement. One more thing......you should also keep the fridge about 6 to 8 inches away from the wall to allow air to circulate at the back.

AC gas filling usually costs around Rs 1000 here in NCR. When Santro Car AC gas refill cost anything between Rs 600-Rs 1000, having more capacity then normal window AC's then i will surely wonder if normal AC gas are filled for more then Rs 1000 bucks. i got my split Ac gas refilled and Window AC gas filled for combined cost of Rs 2200.

Filling gas in a window/split AC is difficult than a car AC. Window/Split AC compressor is completed sealed (motor + compressor). In a car AC, there is a chance of leakage through shaft

well to be true if you are in NCR and especially in areas were some kind of sewage treatment plant, or sewage related work is going on you will find that your gas will need refilling more quickly. This is actually what the Voltas guys told me last time around i filled the gas. Also even for refrigerator it is same thing. Well the problem with local mechanics is that either they will 60% of the requisite gas so you have to shell out another 1000 bucks after a year or two and it will ultimately be equal to what a company does refill for. The gas leakage problem of Ac is specifically higher if you are near sewage treatment plants.p.s Don't count me as a Jal board employee after i talked so much about sewage :tongue1:

good quality gas cost Rs. 950/kgaverage quality gas cost Rs. 650/KG1.5 ton windows AC requires 2.5 KG gas.

now how do we know gas is good or bad, as they just get a cylinder thats it.. ?
i got no thrust coming out of my diakin have gotten gas filled in it last year and spent another 5k with it,

cooling is about 20% what it use to be before..

I spoke with a new guy few daya back who came for service from Diakin, AC was working okish when he was here, he asked 5k if i need a bill for gas filling without it fill for 2.5k, i was like ac might not need full filling, they should charge accordingly..
