1. The problem with us is that we blow a lot of hot air about paying money. We should avoid making such idle statements unless we have actually heard a demand or found that it was needed. 2. If we bribe to expedite our work without demanding the service that we ought to get then we are just setting a precedent for others who follow.3. How can we initiate a bribe and then get in line to pay homage to Anna Hazare?

Well I never bribe for anything, as I mentioned...it is something I am against with a vengeance. But there is just no way around it in case you've applied for a passport. You HAVE to give them something when the cop shows up for your verification, he can create problems for you if you don't.Sources : Have known no one who got it without bribing, and know quite a lot who had to go through hell and back to get theirs when they didn't pay. I needed mine urgently.

I got my passport without bribing anyone.. that too without agent or any influence. That too submitted application by standing in queue just for 5mins!

Me too, never had any problem.

So you guys are saying that the cop showed up at your home and verified you? and when he asked for money after doing that, you told him to f*** off?

no he called me to police station. but didnt ask anything.

@Topic: It is 5:30, saturday evening and I didn't have anyone showing up at my door to install the connection. I know they said 1 week but I was just anxiously hoping for it to be done before Sunday. Not expecting it to be done before tuesday now, and I'm trying to be positive but something tells me that it will be later than tuesday.

Well the problem with not paying arises when he straight up ASKS for something. I wouldn't have payed if no one had demanded that I do.

Exactly. Same experience here.

I never had problem while renewing 3 passports in my family. They call you to meet them and it is over in a few minutes.
I'm sorry if my post sounded judgmental but you will appreciate that your post #14 in this thread is rather contradictory. While you say that you do not bribe, you are still keen to find out the channel for bribing.

Took the SDO's no. from 197 today and talked to him. He said that they are out of wifi modems and are expected to get them next week. :( :( :( It's hella frustrating!!

Sorry, but there seems to be a misunderstanding here, if you read again, I was mocking the poster rather than inquiring about the channels for bribing. And that is because while I've known quite a few people who have bribe for almost anything, bribing to get a broadband connection just sounded ridiculous to me, especially when the people who install the connections get commissions per connection as per my understanding.

As for the passport issue, I don't know how it is handled in mumbai, but here the cops show up at your door to verify everything rather than calling you to the police station. They verify your identity, your address and they want to talk to the 2 people who you have named in the form to vouch for you, and after verifying everything, they blatantly ask for money to which it is hard to say no to.
