How to disable auto desktop mode on Tablets in Google Chrome?

Chrome for Android has now brought in a new feature for tablet users with big screens so that all sites open in default desktop mode & the the drop-down menu from the right side of the address bar has the "desktop site" selected as default. So every time I open Chrome the desktop version of the last site starts loading by default & I have to manually uncheck the "desktop site" to revert to the mobile site. Is there a way this can be reversed, meaning, I want to revert back to the default Mobile version & chose the desktop version only when I want it?

Isn't this what Apple is doing with ipads as well these days?

Already tried to disable the #request-desktop-site-for-tablets from Chrome flags & relaunching chrome but it again reverts to the default desktop mode.
