How to know your ISP Peering?

As the title says how to tell which services/ISP/content provider your ISP has peered with?

PeeringDB is quite good, here is PeeringDB of Excitel for example: PeeringDB . PeeringDB contains public info about all the providers ISPs are peering with such as Internet Exchanges, CDNs etc.

You can also do traceroutes, this only works with certain services .In case of Netflix for example, their domain netflix.com goes through AWS , US while the streams itself is delivered through Internet Exchanges, CDNs etc. Some other services like Microsoft only have certain domains go through peered routes so traceroutes won't show you that.

Some CDNs and services often do one-to-one peering with ISPs, for example Google; traffic won't even have to go through an Internet Exchange int his case.

Here, the fourth hop shows that traffic to google DNS is going through extreme IX delhi

Both PeeringDb and Hurricane electric toolkit are great.
But personally I love Hurricane electric bgp toolkit.
@Realme That's why Tata is the only Indian Tier-1 ISP.

In the peeringdb its specified for Bsnl that they are directly peered with nixi Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai etc but when I did traceroutes to many local sites they goes through TATA instead its should go.directly to Nixi isn't it ,why then bsnl is not using a much more direct route I am just curious, correct me if I m wrong

You are absolutely correct.
Bsnl has such a rotten routing and don't announce all thier prefixes at Nixi.
That's why sometimes domestic traffic goes out of the country and comes back to India.

@vignesh_venkatesan : Tata Comm. was VSNL earlier, if you happen to be of that era how was peering and routing setup then?
(or did things improve when TATA took over)

If TATA tier-1 I wonder why don't they get in business of giving customers connection directly, like BSNL level?

Also why do BSNL doesn't work on its routing, it seems the staff on higher level is technically competent, they can improve it withing 6-18 months even with lax attitude??

I'm not old enough to talk about the Vsnl era.
But I can explain why BSNL does not do international network building.
Vsnl was the first company to provide internet in India,during that time bsnl didn't exist and retail telecom services were provided by Department of Telecom directly.
So from the start Vsnl was a backbone provider and when tata joined and eventually took over VSNL it followed the same philosophy.
I'm not sure whether they have any non-compete clause or anything like that but building out a international tier 1 network is more lucrative as dealing with retail customers is quite hard.

TATA does have Tata Sky Broadband Tata Sky Broadband: High Speed Fiber-based internet connection in India
for consumers and they apparently peer with Extreme IX Mumbai PeeringDB

I haven't seen their flyers or ads anywhere in Delhi, so they don't have a big presence here.
