yup netlimiter works great.been using it for years.i too limit firefox speed to 512Kbps for surfing & quickly kill pages if i see heavy GIF/flash ads on the page.it helps save some bandwidth this way. :)

Its a old thread but lets revive it for future readers.
I recently got Airtel Broadband and by the time I came back from office, usually 1-2GB of data was getting spent on Doraemon by kids

so I had TP-Link 3420 and was already running DD-WRT so I hooked it along Airtel provided Router and Limited My TP-Link via QoS to 500kbps
removed the password for full Speed router (Airtel/Beetel) from all devices except my own phone & Lappy.

Now my kids don't watch doraemon on 720 due to speed limited and usage has come down to reasonable limits.

Airtel should provide a setting where you can browse at 512kbps through the month without consuming your data. And upgrade to full speed to use your quota when you need that extra speed :D

That's technically very Possible and will help I.T. people save your data from getting wasted while they are in office.

lets send this to someone senior at Airtel Broadband, will check with someone if he has mail ID of anyone who could take this to
production level and implementation.

well. they are unlikely to be interested because it hurts them as fewer people would need to buy smartbytes plan as a result of such an implementation.

The best in current scenario is to apply bandwidth restrictions using dd-wrt or even other custom router os.
Btw, in TP-Link routers, you habe option of bandwidth control which will also do the same.

With dd-wrt you can schedule the restrictions based on tine and with script you can even do even and traffic based restrictions.
