I have a Nokia G-2425G GPON router and would like to add a 2nd router (Wavlink AC3200) elswhere in my home connected to the Nokia router via Ethernet cable, and use the same SSID on the Wavlink router as the main Nokia router. I tried a few things and got it working at almost the same speed as the ISP guarranteed speed, but couldn't keep a stable service and it stopped working so I think I got some settings wrong. I am a real noobie so please forgive my questions as below which may have 'obvious' answers to many...!
Nokia router basic info is:
IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.254
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Start Address: 192.168.1.64
DHCP End Address: 192.168.1.253
DHCP Lease Time: 1440
My Basic Questions:
1. Should I ask my ISP to enable 'Bridge Mode' on one of the Nokia LAN ports? The Ethernet cable is currently plugged into LAN 3 on the Nokia, (which apparently is faster than some of the other 3 ports) or should I use a different LAN Port?
2. Should I plug the Ethernet cable into the WAN port of the Wavlink router or LAN3 (or other LAN port of the Wavlink [it only has WAN, LAN1, LAN2 & LAN3 ports])?
2. Should I set up my Wavlink router Connection Type as: 'Static IP Address' , 'PPPoE' (or 'PPTP' or 'L2TP')?
3. If it's 'Static IP Address' connection what values should I enter for:
a) IP Address: (my guess: 192.168.1.127)
b) Subnet mask: (my guess: 255.255.255.0)
c) Default Gateway: (my guess: 192.168.1.254)
d) Primary DNS IP: (my guess: 192.168.1.254)
e) Secondary DNS IP: (I think it's optional)
f) MTU: (my guess 1500)
4. If PPPoE what values for: Username and Password - (are these the same as for the Nokia router?)
5. Should I use the same 2.4GHz channel number on both routers, or make them separate e.g. 6 and 11? (5 Ghz is disabled on both)
6. Do you have any other setting recommendations for either the Nokia router or the Wavlink router?
Thank you very much!
