i really dont think isps can do anything about it.they really cannot ban you from using a wireless router for sharing your internet connection. it's not illegal to share internet connectivity. but it's a major security problem if the connection is used by bad elements of the society. you land in trouble if that happens.

What I feel:Here is a person from a Village asking about WIFI for ten of his friends from a single connection.. I am sticking to the technical feasibility etc. ( may work in a a village with clear line of sight !)It is possible the person may not be computer savvyand the other posts will discourage him.All these legal/illegal/bharat mahan etc can wait.Help some of your friends in a Village to enjoy/sufferInternet !!!!

you are right essbee.i am not a computer savvy and my friends are also not computer savvywe just want to use it for surfing.the answer to you question a and b is that bsnl has given me a modem make of utstarcom and its model number is ut300r2u.thanks for discussion on my topic

@harpinder
No problem.
Did you try the "Cordless Phone " test ?
Confirm you are connected to Internet
with your laptop and if any problem do not hesitate to
post in this forum.
Can you exchange the Ut300R2u for a type II or type IV
modem/router. Tell CC you want to use your laptop.

Para two :
Instead of sharing your connection, your friends can also
get BB connection starting with Rs 125/PM and get familiar
with Broadband.
or
for very casual use ( speed very slow ) check this web site
use it for a month . You pay for what you use at Rs 6/= per
hour + very low phone charges.
then get all doubts cleared here ,
and go for two or three
wireless broadband network..
or a
Sancharnet internet connection for one year Rs 550 I think
Slow speed. ( telephone charges extra )

Netone :
Select your nearest town SSA.
Net One Dial Up
