I wish to take Airtel to Court (Extortion calls, Threat Calls and so on) #airtelsucks

yeap. that would be the best way to start the offense against airtel in this particular case.

I remember a similar incident when I took two loans from Std Chartered Bank once. I have paid and closed the personal loan and was waiting for the closure certificate. To my surprise they took the EMI through ECS for next month as well. I called their helpdesk and they assured a refund in 10 days. I didnt get the refund and next month also they took the EMI. I have contacted the helpdesk several times, I think around 10 + times to get the false assurance that they will get the amount reimbursed in 10 days every time. My patience ran out when they deducted the EMI for third continuous month. I went to their Bangalore main branch and shouted at the front desk like anything. I was not ready to settle for the false assurance and manager wanted to take me inside his cabinet so that other customers will not hear. But I insisted staying there till I get a solution. He said that he is helpless as the reimbursement check has to come from Chennai and is not under his authority. They said that I need to pay the pending EMIs at the earliest or it will attract penalties, but they will not give any interest/penalty for the money they owe me. I kept on arguing in the bank and was shouting like anything, and finally he gave me a written assurance (email) that the bank will adjust the reimbursement against my second loan (car loan) EMIs and I will not have to pay for next three months (as the EMI for both loans were almost same) and write off any penalties. I was not sure whether they will stick to their commitment, so I drained my bank account for next three months so that ECS will not go, and afterwards continued to pay.Almost after 6 months I started getting calls saying that I have defaulted in my current loan payment. I explained the person in detail, and later to his manager who said she will check and get back, which never happened. After 3 more months my car loan was also over and called the helpdesk to get the closure certificate (certificate for the first loan was still pending). As expected they said that 3 months payment is pending and I need to pay that at the earliest. I disagreed and went through the whole story. Then the threat calls started coming in from Delhi. But I stick on speaking in English , saying that I dont understand Hindi. They are unable to convey in English what they intended to say, and finally will hang up saying "sir, pay the money , or you will be in jail". They also called my parents and tried to speak in Hindi, but which didnt made any sense to my father. :). This continued for 3 -4 days and then stopped. Again by every quarter end I used to get similar calls, but after almost an year they stopped.Things I learned 1, These private companies are not interested in addressing customer issues.2, Even if you try, they will only go for some temporary fixes and the actual problem will still exist.3, They will never value the commitments they have given4, They are afraid of loosing their face in public.5, They will only care about the money they has to get, and least bothered about the money they owe us.6, Pretending that you will not understand Hindi to the goons who threaten you will put them to a defending position. Good luck for your fight for the right.

mhm. good reason i prefer to stay away from loans. the only reason i have not invested in a property yet. bad decision financially. but has saved me the hassle of dealing with goons :(

got personal loan once from icici and it was ok ... they returned the checks after the EMI finished .. so no issues in tht front ..But I do agree tht this practice of hiring goons for money recovery is wrong .. Govt should take measures against the corporates who hire them .. and first of all they should introduce a SSN type system in India where everything we do create a credit history .. and link everything to it ..

they do have such a system in place now. and i believe most banks are now providing customer data to it. the problem is of course about transparency and accuracy. i believe things are going to become more clear in the coming years when people would start realizing that they are being refused loans and credit cards because they defaulted on a previous one.

But finally it should not end up to become a mechanism for these goons to harass customers, threatening that they will reduce the credit rating.

Well Supreme court has already made it illegal to hire goons. Code of conduct is must for recovery agents. But I guess that stays on paper. Off paper the recovery agents stlll follow bad practice.

ah well. recovery agents are still there. the HDFC notice that arrived at my place (for one of the guys who used to work for a friend) with the straight message that his case has been transfered to their recovery service operator. :D

Well hiring recovery agents is allowed but code of conduct is must. But its never followed! :D

righto. the document i got had clear details on the code of conduct. clearly stated that there would be no abuse. of course, when there is commission involved, rules are broken.
