Hi, I use BSNL broadband,
i was worried about the access to router settings, i.e., we enter our LAN IP in the browser as http://192.168.1.1 and we can enter the router configuration page by giving username & password. Many of us haven't cared to change the default username & password (admin, admin).
Is it posssible that any person who knows my current IP address and my router password may misuse it. If it is, then in what way can he?

my firewall logs almost daily 200-400 requests from 59.95.xx.xx on port 80 . u gotta be careful . disable REMOTE Administration on your modem . change your default router password . and in firewall setting put the rule for INBOUND REQUEST FOR port 80 .

Thanx for the replies@spawn_freak: My router is Huawei smartax MT882, Currently PPPoE is enabled and the other option is PPPoA, what should i do, I have very little idea about these two, is it safe if i enable PPPoA? @cisco_tech: I can't find any "remote administration" mode or equivalent in my router settings, and I have got a limited firewall settings, my current settings is shown belowBlack List Status Disabled Use Attack Protection Deny Use Dos Protection Deny Max Tcp Open Handshaking Count disabledMax ICMP Count disabled Max Host Count disabledAny suggestions??

No one can login to you r router until you are in PPPoE mode!

i think access will not be affected by pppoe ..the only thing which matters is no username and password is in router/modem..am i right..??.. one more thing when you dont use this pppoe mode what will be the output of ipconfig /all command ..ip will be local or wan ip like 59.94.xx..xx ???...
