Even if logs are deleted from Servers, they are available from Routers that handle traffic in data centers AND from local ISP.In short, privacy is difficult thing to achieve.

and of course we DO not talk about internet piracy on this forum anyways. we do not recommend it. and we avoid doing it.

just asking so that someone (possibly a hacker or govt. agency) doesn't trace us back ...

Our own Govt does not know the diffrence between Broadband and rubber band,
They call 256kbps with speed drops a BB????????
Oo only hackers or foreign threats would be admissible

cant find any option to remove the IPs connected with the posts... so i guess it cant be done.

All of it is stored in a MySQL dB is it not ?

You might not find some option...

but why can't a SQL query take care of that.

of course i should be able to run a query to clean the post table of the IPs (2 lakh posts!)... but i dont know whether that would mess up the forum in anyways. probably replace all the existing IPs with a dummy one. but i would need someone who is good with sql commands to give me that perfect command :p

the perfect command is derived from doing small lots& testing.Look lets follow through with the argument, some dangerous person says something, the IB says we need to take a look, you have no choice but to comply...The question to be answered is...Should you have scrubbed the data beforehand or not ?

yes even if u have fake identities, u can still be caught.

2nd I think its rule that logs shud be kept for atleast 6 months.
totally orwellian and totalitarian.not more than 3 says

w00t I found a solution.Use tor and lets create an alternate dns root for this server like bbbbb.94 (which will resplve to the actual server's dynamic ip only via my hacked dns box) all http packets will only be accessed by tunneling it thru a ssh channel, which I will run at port 6969 so that sify users are barred :wall:Ok well ass hattery aside, we can be as paranoid as we want, but each time u load this webpage, not only ur ip is monitored by this site, but all the add u see here.Infact any one can track stuff, if u have say an img embeded in ur signature. (host img on ur box, monitor requests ips)

rule does make sense (to me atleast). if some1 does something illegal (specifically terrorism), govt needs to track them. infact i think if u cant provide logs govt can put charges on u.

Bigger question is, Can he do it or not?

Usually, a site of this size will not have its own infrastructure. It will be just a dedicated server.

All logs will be stored on server AND on routers (managed by hosting company).

So, admin can do whatever with logs on server.

But hosting company can (and usually will) still give logs from router and
those will be unscrambled.
