India card Rupay to replace Visa, MasterCard

the point is... mastercard and visa are globally supported services. how long do you believe it would take for this new concept to spread around enough to make the platform usable for most of us?

That India card IS the India Rupay card that is launching after two years of planning.

Cool^^ anyone know whether this will be accepted for online transactions? Thats the whole point of having a credit card for me atleast.

The point here is that it will all come down to the vendors, who in turn will need to work with payment gateways like CCAvenue, Billdesk, ICICI, Citibank etc. But considering the govt will push for it - It will happen. Ofcourse, international websites is a complete different story, may or not happen.

Udemy is accepting UPI and Indian Wallets, so surely Rupay may also work.

Udemy, Coursera, Steam and many other international websites already accept RuPay Domestic cards since last 3 to 4 years.
Few International payment gateways already supported RuPay Domestic cards, they debit INR currency from RuPay Domestic card and convert to other currency and send to merchants.
Recently i saw Epik website tieup with Razorpay to accept RuPay Domestic cards and debit exactly USD to INR coversation rate without any extra fee.

Note - RuPay Domestic card means payment proceed through RuPay's own 3D secure gateway like Paysecure/BEPG network instead of Discover's ProtectBuy or JCB's J/Secure™.

NPCI also recently release a circular, instructed banks to enabled International payment for all RuPay Domestic cards by default.
