looks liek they are more n more turning this country into a police state.

I wonder if the government would use this to highlight the importance of intercepting messages on apps and services.

There’s nothing totally secure about a conversation on the Internet, though one may like to believe so. Media reports about the Delhi police having 70 phones under surveillance during their probe into spot fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and tracking messaging software like Whatsapp and Blackberry Messenger (bbm) are a case in point. While the government can prevail on Internet services providers or ISPs to share crucial online information, regardless of whether they are on encrypted BlackBerry servers or on instant messengers like GTalk and Whatsapp, there are numerous text messaging monitoring apps, too, that can easily spy on cell phones.

well smart phone is only as smart as the person using it, that article assumes the fact somebody has to has physical or hands on access tho phone, if that happens well you are fcuked in this day of corporate espionage we have have to take extreme measures to secure the phone, forget govts private spy's have better tools. BBm is compromised in India everyone knows but the beauty of android in right hands it can be locked down tighter then bank's safe and if in the wrong hands it is the most inseucre OS .

they are worried about whatapp !! lol there much more secure tools out there for example http://www.whispersystems.org/
i use redphone for important voip calls and no govt or private spook can get in that and there still better solutions if you pay a hefty amount. tech will always be ten steps ahead and as with everything it can be used for good and bad both.

Well Yep and depends too. There are supposed to be apps to secure stuff by Privacy Oriented orgs like Gibberbot, Orbot, Orweb, but effectiveness only the ones with the tools to sniff that stuff will know. And as mentioned I am sure the gov won't directly snoop but use so called private ethical hackers because they won't wanna get their hands dirty!Legal problems included because even for the fixing stuff they cannot say they had a hunch so they monitored the phones, you can do that ONLY after SPECIAL PERMISSION, but these days, given the whole bull$#!T of national sakeyourrighty, I'm sure they'll be overriding those laws as and when they please and well they're the ruling class so they can do whatever they want and we have to put up!I myself am seriously considering rooting my phone and removing all the crapware! Deleted my FB account in March! Only thing is to use Android, you gotta have a gmail account and they are no better when it comes to tracking your ar$3! Everything will be needed with your location access by them! Maps, Device locator apps, etc. What's this thing I see as anonymous users below chromaniac? Do you have a facility to log in like that? Still, as a forum, I bet you gotta have everything logged as quoted by law Right?
