President poll: PA Sangma to move SC against Pranab Mukherjee's nomination - Politics - Politics News - ibnlive

Former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma has decided to file an election petition against Pranab Mukherjee's nomination in the presidential poll. Sangma will next week approach the Supreme Court asking that the presidential elections be declared null and void.
Sangma has alleged that Mukherjee held an office of profit when he filed his nomination for the presidential elections.
Sangma, who lost the presidential elections to Mukherjee, had been contemplating filing an election petition challenging Mukherjee's nomination.

PA Sangma, who resigned from the NCP in the run up to the presidential poll, on Sunday said he will float a national party in the next few days, but would not intervene in the political future of his daughter and Union Minister Agatha.

"Some tribal leaders are there with me, and it is in discussion stage. It will be a national party, and those regional parties willing to support can do so by coordinating from their respective states," Sangma said.

"I knew that I would not win the presidential poll. But I wanted to send a message that tribals, who are known as simple people, can also put up a strong fight," Sangma said and called upon tribals not to allow others to exploit them.

Before the Prez elections he was claiming " i haven't lost any elections in my career and am confident of winning". now singing a different tune.His political career will almost be over if he launches a new national party. He has hold only in the North-eastern region particularly Meghalaya.

P A Sangma moves SC against Pranab Mukherjee's election as President - The Economic Times

P A Sangma today moved the Supreme Court challenging the election of Pranab Mukherjee as the President of India saying that the veteran Congress leader was not eligible for the post as he was holding offices of profit.

The petition, filed by Sangma, has contended that Mukherjee was holding the offices of profit as the chairman of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata and was also the leader of the Congress Party in Lok Sabha when he had entered the Presidential race.

Almost a month after his loss against President Pranab Mukherjee in the presidential elections, former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader PA Sangma is slated to launch a new political party on Friday.
Sangma's party will be called the National People's Party and as many as 13 NCP MLAs are likely to join it.
