Internet stops working when torrent starts

Hey peeps,

So this is very weird. Whenever I start torrent on my laptop, internet stops working on other devices.
This has happened in the past and the only fix was to replace the router.
Now suddenly two days back, I'm observing the same issue.
To me it looks like pblm with new firmware.

Any ideas fellas?
 
It also has happened to me, on BSNL fiber and not on JoiFiber tho. Whenever I started the torrent client and the number of peers started to increase, the internet access to other devices would halt, if I added more torrents and the number of peers increased, the router would restart itself. The only solution that I found was to replace the cheap ONU/router with a good one.
 
This is due to Torrent client taking up the entire Upload Bandwidth and preventing your other devices / apps from from being able to send any message out into the internet (upstream direction).

You either need good QoS running on the router or restrict the upload speed in the torrent client settings to about 70% of the internet plan upload speed.
 
Does this happen when you have a lot of torrents up or a single one seeding/downloading is enough?
