IPv6 is gone after activating Static IPv4

Hello there,

I am really disappointed with Airtel Fiber.

Just couple of days back I got a Static IPv4 Address but after its activation IPv6 is gone.

Router:
Nokia G-2425G-A

Now Airtel Fiber Support/Backend Team is saying IPv6 is not supported on the above mentioned Router.
However, IPv4 + IPv6 was working without any issue prior to Static IPv4 activation.

Anyone else facing the same issue?

Yes that's what happens. If you want IPv6 you have to dial PPPoE.

And why are you disappointed if IPv6 goes?? Your internet connectivity still continues just as it did before. If you want v6 go back to PPPoE. That's the way Airtel's system setup works

Disappointment is not just because of IPv6, Airtel’s issue handling process is very pathetic.

Technically if you just dial PPPoE you should get IPv6 back without cancelling Static IP. You have to decide for yourself if you want Static IPv4 or IPv6. Afaik, you can't get both at the same time. That's how airtel has implemented it.

@RufusTech yes, if IPv6 is all that important to you then cancel the static IP and you'll be back to normal v4 + v6.

Otherwise, just take your PPPoE username and password and configure your router WAN from static to PPPoE, enter your credentials and it'll work. Make sure you tell Airtel support that you do not require static v4 now. Otherwise you will be charged for it.

If you have your own router (via bridge mode) you can get both IPv6 and static IPv4 working at the same time.
My ONT Is in bridge mode and I dial PPPoE from my Mikrotik router + the static IP via IPoE

Similar to @albonycal , I have bridge mode with static IP on a TP-Link Archer AX72, v4 works on static IP and v6 works perfectly with prefix delegation and SLAAC

Default Airtel router is locked so they disable ipv6 when they change to static IP, as they have a single profile added in WAN, you can also unlock Nokia router and create new WAN profile with v6 and PPPoE, which will definitely work as simultaneous v4 and v6
