mmm. it might not be morally correct. but if the laws of the land allows you to do it, it is not illegal.

there are many countries on this planet that allows downloading of copyrighted material for personal consumption. and indian laws i believe are on the same lines.

unless MPAA and RIAA have copyrights over their work here in india and the law prohibits piracy of the same material in indian borders, it would be illegal. there are too many ifs and buts.

in any case, ISPs do not have the authority to police the internet. courts do.

pornography is illegal in india. i might be incorrect but from what i have heard/read... download porno for personal 'pleasure' is not illegal. selling is illegal. profiting from it is illegal. broadcasting it is illegal. running a porn site is also illegal.

you are missing the point. everyone would have a different opinion on stuff. in the end, the laws of the land matters. and the bodies who are authorized to implement the law. there is a good reason why we do not have services like Spotify here in india. and why Apple itunes does not sell music and videos in india. i am trying to find details on indian laws related to download of copyrighted material for personal consumption. the primary point is... airtel allows unrestricted torrent downloads during night time. but it blocks it during the day time. so they are surely not doing it for the respect of copyrights right? they are just doing it for their own personal gains. nothing else.

Hey i too am getting low speeds for megavideo n putlocker there was a fire outage for airtel in mumbai few days ago .b4 that it was fine can it be due to that fire outage ? nyways wanting to see movies is not that much of a big loss to the film studios-they were crying bout piracy from the vcr days.. did they all really go bankrupt??? NO they r flourishing. It is not in our blood to simply do piracy we too want a lawful way- they overcharge. imagine if it would cost us about rs 3000-4000 per year to watch however many movies we want. who would mind that small hit ??evryone wud pay up. if we r a developing country we shud be charged per our means. N take the case of justin beiber .. if there was no way he could share his music vids for free how would he become the sensation he is today . You cant just make a monolithic argument that intellectual property will be harmed ..so no sharing stuff for free..Actually in a progressive society information shud be easy access n free.ip rights shud be honoured but for consumer it shud tend to be cheaper per user so more volume for ip holder...

It is WRONG to download copyright content without paying whether one wants to use it for personal use or not.

chromaniac has covered all the points that you have raised, i would like to just point out , personal consumption is very different from street piracy, that is the one which hurts , downloading for personal use it perfectly legit in Netherlands, Spain, Canada, and India as per the standing law. in india cause thier is no written law which handles digital downloads yet so the copyright act of 58 applies.

again you are wrong , strong copyright enforcement stifles invocation and creation art as we can see all over the world with acts like SOPA/PIPA which do not take in consideration the artists but the labels and producers , copyright amendment act 2010 India is stuck just cause of that , cause the producers and artists are stuck on who gets what. the era of gate keepers has ended , welcome to digital age. indie movie producers and song writers, performers are doing very well cause of free publicity they get ,also direct sales from their sites and they welcome so called 'piracy ' good god you almost sound like one the paid trolls on tech dirt or TF

and again an isp has no to right to throttle my connection for any reason am paying for that service what i do with it is my concern, if any of so called copy right holders have problem, the law is there. an isp is not , judge and jury on it's own , they cannot make their own laws of land and enforce them as the deem fit.

- I do not care what other people are using torrents for i am using it for LEGAL downloads, why should i be treated on the basis of a assumption that makes no sense.
- Internet is full of surprises and things you would not like. If i use the internet, it does not mean i am seeing or doing them too.
- Torrent trackers of all popular sites, lists users from all over the world not only India.
- In India most people still prefer to buy pirated stuff... as downloading on their crappy connections can take them forever.
- I am not against the FUP but least i should get the speed i paid for .. till i reach my limit? I think that is fair.. or are you implying i should be happy paying for 4mbps connection and getting download speeds of 256kbps? I'm sorry but i value my money and i do not wish to be cheated off it.

opss missed that one, you have it right, production and distribution of hardcore porn is illegal in India but again personal use is legit as long as you don't do a public performance making and distribution of soft-core is legit though you need some govt permissions.

which i think is retarded again cause all is does it drives making porn underground which makes it much more dangerous for society as such but that is another topic.

I am facing a weird problem right now. When I try to download from oron/filesonic/fileshare, my download proceeds normally upto 3 or 4MB and then just hangs there. Regular browsing works fine at the same time. Anybody facing this?I've tried resetting the connection plenty of times in vain.

same here. airtel is definitely throttling file sharing website speeds.i am getting 25- 30kBps download speed on filesharing websites. ( m on 512kbps plan)surfing is fine.so airtel is throttling my speed to half.. issed-off::at-wits-end:
