Hello all,
I have a major issue with the so called Airtel premium broadband. Am paying for a 300 Mbps connection.
Things were working fine for many months. But suddenly in feb, speed started coming down to 100 Mbps. Backend team did some setting into manual and it worked fine for 3 weeks. But the issue reverted later.

When repeatedly complained, damn airtel doesn't understand and says connection working fine at their end. This is all they got to say. Mine is a dragonpath router. They replaced it with Nokia router and it worked fine for 3-4 days but then again, issue reverted. Now they again changed this back to original dragon path router. Speed worked fine for 16 hrs and it gave up.

Now they are not helping. In my soceity there is nothing but this Airtel. I miss my Actfiber a lot. No one understands the issue and their backend team is the worst. Not sure how airtel is being good!

Pls help me with any suggestions. Hard reset of the connection via cable or router works some times, but doesn't many a time. I wanted to check if VPN on/off would cause any issues? Because i observed (some times), after i disconnect the VPN, speed doesn't cross 100 but goes to 300 many a time. Airtel router LAN port itself is giving 100 Mbps when tested. Now after a reset, suddenly it works and then again it drops to 100.

With VPN off only. Speeds are anyways less with VPN on. But even after disconnecting, speed is 100 or low.
Even a reset of connection won't work. At times, reset of the cable or router works.

Recently with a fresh router, connection was fine for 16 hrs. After i connected VPN and disconnected, it was still fine. But the next time, speed dropped to 100 after disconnection. So its not like post VPN, everytime am facing this drop.

Maybe there's a connection issue in the distribution box.

I remember last year I had issues with the PON light going red and random speed drops. It was an iffy connection in the distribution box. But yeah, Airtel support seems to be very unhelpful in your case.

After all, you're using their router and everything, so it's not like they can blame it on your personal equipment. Have you tried escalating this to higher ups?

Unfortunately most of them just use WIFI and they don't face this issue may be coming for LAN. Also they are on 100 mbps.
They always suspect my computer but i showed them that its 1 GB connection capable. No one really listens from Airtel. Outright horrible.

I had written on twitter but nothing was done. They are not giving escalation points. Now if i say VPN, they will say VPN is the cause. They won't understand.

Almost all major ISP backend team is incompetent and they don't understand issues. One exception is ACT fibernet, their customer support and backend team are on point, i always got prompt resolution. Switching routers and hard/soft reset won't help in this case. There is definitely some issue from their backend.
I faced a similar issue in my Tata Play Fiber connection 8-9 months ago when i upgraded from 200mbps to 500mbps plan. Up/Down speed simply didn't increase. I talked to their customer care and it took 3-4 days to get that issue resolved. Later i came to know that the nearest OLT was incapable of pushing 500mbps speed(it was capped at 300mbps only). They upgraded their OLT in a few days and then i was getting full up/down speeds.
Check with your local service engineer and ask them if there is any issue/capping with the OLT which is mostly not the case because you are getting 300mbps speed at times. Try approaching the higher authorities through email, this route might take a while but if customer care is not helping then this is the only way. There is mention of NOC a lot of times in this forum, i am not sure if that would help but give it a try and talk to them.

If I understand correctly you are talking about speed over LAN.
If wifi has no issue, that means the problem is either with your LAN cable or the PC network adapter.
Try changing the LAN cable and if that doesn't work, try resetting and updating the network adapter drivers.

Hello,
I actually had a LAN cable issue earlier 6 months ago. Replaced it with new D-Link cable and issue was resolved. If its a LAN cable issue, why would my PC show 300 Mbps at times post connection reset? And even recently it worked at 300 Mbps for 16+ hrs. My PC network adapter (Am not sure here as its the same few weeks ago).

I had verified from router. It varies from 100-140 Mbps from their LAN port directly. At times, it goes to 200 on their port but most of the times its less then 140 on their router port. Earlier it used to be 300.
