The bug has been marked won't-fix so now this is the place to track any updates. The best part? Google used bogus data to justify that AVIF is faster than JPEG-XL. And the tests were performed by the engineers responsible for the AVIF format so a lot of bias there.

So for a change... Apple has added support for JXL on both iOS and MacOS platforms pretty quickly.
