I have a Dell inspiron 1545 bought in October 2009. It's display also started going complete white at times. Now completly white screen. Using it by connecting to external monitor. Any ideas what may have happened. It is used for 5-6 hours on weekdays and 10-12 hours on weekends and holidays

White means backlight is good but LED screen is bad. Your case is kind of reverse to me! :D

I hope bulb can be replaced. Because bulb will not cost much say 500-600Rs? And service charge 500-600Rs?

So I shud be able to repair it in max 1500Rs! :D

In Nehru Place (Delhi) I was quoted Rs 2000 for replacement of screen of Toshiba 15 inch laptop with a new screen. Display of this laptop has a few dead pixels. I'm still using it with bad pixels.

There are many shops in Nehru place where one can get the display replaced with the display of an old laptop also for a few hundred rupees only. These shops procure components from dealers in the markets who keep inventory of old laptops that can't be repaired. So like old cars they are cannibalized for components.

I am not in Delhi but Mumbai.

But I am sure even in Mumbai there must be some shops which keep old working parts.

Lets see if I can find one which gives guarantee of atleast 1 year.

But its no more urgent as external monitor is working properly.

Yep thought of it but its very far from here. Coming and going will take 2hrs. (plus monsoon rains)

Plus I do not want to given them laptop for 1-2 days for repair. Would prefer on the spot repair.

There are some repair shops near Navrang cinema (just abt 15mins from here) - will check out in weekend.

They don't give any guarantee on old parts. I don't think anyone can give guarantee for old parts.
