A UI designer friend needs a new machine. His budget is around Rs. 50,000. His requirements are i5 Haswell and 6GB RAM minimum. Decent GPU would be needed because apps like PhotoShop rely on them a lot. Needs 1080p display. Not sure if these would fit in the budget. Hence asking! He would prefer Windows 8.1 Pro and 3 Years Warranty. If warranty is less, it should be extendable before 1 year are up.

as mentioned above, his company would be ordering the machine on his behalf. he just needs an idea on what is available in the market that he can send as a recommendation to his new company. the alternative is that he orders it for himself but in that case, his company would refund him Rs. 15K per year for the machine which does not look as nice.

Right. Print people are largely going to be on iMacs or Mac Pros with Apple Displays. There are very few displays from other manufacturers that cater to this segment of the market. 50000 is a fair ask for the specifications he is looking for. But he should drop the very idea of 1080p at this price. Now besides that I am using HP pavilion e034tx that came with 4GB Ram and i5 3rd Gen. It was very difficult to sustain my needs and would hang a lot when it saw things like Photoshop, Illustrator, and multiple tabs of firefox opened together. But ever since I upgraded to 8GB of ram everything is in a state of bliss (not my broadband though).
I believe if he is a graphic designer + heavy user (other softwares, browsers opened at same time) he shouldn't settle for ram any less than 8GB.
But if only Photoshop or Illustrator or Corel will be used at a time with not much usage besides them - 4GB would be plenty.
Also there are hoards of laptops in that price range on Flipkart. Have a look there. Many only offer Standard Chartered discount but you may get them at discounted prices elsewhere if you don't have Standard Chartered.
Also like some other user mentioned - I have seen people swearing for MacBook when it comes to anything graphic. Macs just have brilliant color reproduction and awesome display.
So if remotely possible (I know his company would buy it) consider buying a used Macbook pro or air! *Please don't lash out at me for this last advice.*

lenovo y510 is the best budget gaming laptop. I urge admin that your friend should buy it from store as it is much cheaper.
Also y510 allows you to convert your dvd drive to a fan,hdd or a graphics card and work in sli mode. Be sure to buy the 755m gt model so in future you can purchase an ultrabay and have 2 graphics card

Well I don't think SLI model is present in India. And even if it is, it's price wouldn't be under asked budget.
