Hello Everyone!
Greetings.
I wanted to know what hardware/technology is the best for Leased Line Connection. We have nine remote sites which we want to connect together using a leased line . In our country we use copper wire for the last mile connectivity. Therefore looking into this scenario which of the following is the best possible hardware/technology for leased line connectivity.
1. First option is using E1, V.35 modem and a
Router.
2. the second option is using
a. E1 to Ethernet Connection
b. LAN Extender
c. Routers
If we use second option, is this way of using a LL secure. I would be glad if you could kindly let me know which one of the above will be the best way for connectivity.
Regards,
Nishad.
Normally the provider will recommend and/or supply your terminating gear (sometimes because of brand preference for support reasons, other times because they might need Layer 2 access to make changes on the fly), on to which you can connect your own network gear (broadband routers, load balancers and switches) in each location.
It's unlikely (but not unheard of) that they could run Ethernet in to your premises, but it's also possible you'll need some kind of ATM gear (in case they don't provide it). Without knowing the provider and what type of copper they're running, it could be difficult to answer the question with any real certainty. I suggest talking to your account manager at whichever provider you end up choosing.
Secondly, in India, secure lines are basically illegal (I'm oversimplifying and overstating it a bit, but that's what it boils down to) - The government "suggests" that VPNs, SSH Tunnels, Encrypted lines etc must be readable/accessible/traceable by them. If you're not in India, however, the laws are probably slightly more sane.
