Lenovo's been rumoured to be in talks for quite some time with a number of smartphone makers, including BlackBerry, for an acquisition deal.

However, it's now also being reported that the Chinese device maker, which had acquired the consumer hardware business of IBM, is in talks with ailing smartphone maker HTC for acquiring the Taiwanese handset manufacturer's mobile business.

Lenovo and HTC have been in confidential discussions since August according to a report by AndroidBeat, that cites Taiwanese publication Apple Daily as a source.

The report mentions that Lenovo intends to acquire HTC's brand, similar to the acquisition of IBM's ThinkPad brand. It adds that the specific terms of the deal are not known as the valuation could change. However, it does state that the buyout could be announced and concluded during the first half of 2014.
With Love from China... to China :D

Thats how news/rumors spread :)

Its a crap deal for Lenovo to buy HTC. They are almost equal players in terms of market share. No great shakes. Both have similar capabilities in same regions for manufacturing and service.
Lenovo already has a great distribution and service network in most of the world for its laptops and PCs. Why would it need HTC then? Especially considering its neither doing well nor has it great market.
If I was Lenovo, I'd keep away from HTC. Unless of course, if I get a killer bargain.

I guess HTC phones are better than what lenovo has. So maybe they can sell better phones they get from HTC, and HTC gets a good distribution network

Besides as per news/rumor, it is mentioned that Lenovo won't discontinue HTC brand, but continue it as separate brand like what they did with IBM Laptops.
