This may sound a little strange, but I have consistently observed that whenever my ADSL link goes down due to low SNR, if I pick my telephone for a minute or so, or if I call the landline number from another phone, the link comes back !! (almost instantaneously in most cases, with better SNR and stays for quite some time.) What could be the scientific reason behind this?? Very curious to know.

The modem is Huawei quidway WA1003A, and the line has very low SNR these days, hence I face disconnection problem every now and then. Some time back I had tried IPTV on this line, but didn't work out due to SNR issues, so surrendered it. Now I am thinking of changing the phone/broadband as well and switching to Airtel. But based on some other readings here, I think I should inspect the phone wires/connections etc at my premises before that. IPTV guys had tried to improve SNR from BSNL office but were not successful, they didn't inspect wiring in my building as such.

Modem WA3002-g1 error corrected WA 1003A see below post no 3 .
Presume you are using an ADSl splitter properly.
Check mod settings , and try GDMT. compare SNR with other mod selections.
Line speed selected should not be very high.

Check for oxidisation/blackening of contacts etc. You may also change the RJ11
box/es if you had done internal wiring in your house /flat.
Airtel will bring a separate line and will not use your old BSNL lines.

I didn't get it, what did you mean? I have already mentioned the model number that I am using- WA1003A.

Yes, I think so. I do have a lot of parallel connections, but all of them are after the splitter, so don't think that should be an issue. Removing telephone instruments does not make it any better.

Yes, after some reading and trial and errors, I am using GDMT because that setting is relatively the best.

Line speed selected should not be very high.
This is a big doubt that I am suspecting too. Ever since IPTV was tried, the modem tries to connect at high speeds. Many times it is at 3-4 Mbps with 0-5 SNR. I suppose if it tries to connect at lower speed in similar situations, SNR should have been much better. But I don't see any settings to change this behavior. Guess those guys had changed some settings from their end when IPTV was installed. Can I have control over that setting in any way, please advise.
In spite of above, SNR fluctuates a lot from time to time and at times it connects at very low speeds like 128 or 64 Kbps!! and sometime it is plain zero!!! Thats when I try making or receiving a call and the connection is back in 90% of the cases!

Check for oxidisation/blackening of contacts etc. You may also change the RJ11

Pardon me for lack of knowledge, but RJ11 refers to telephone jacks or ethernet jacks? (or something else?)

Airtel will bring a separate line and will not use your old BSNL lines.
Don't they re-use the wiring within the building/flat at least?

Rj11 a twin wire telephone cable with connectors. connects to line port of modem.
or in the house a Telephone connection box . if provided by BSNl or owner in the house/flat in different rooms. ( Concealed wiring).
Rj45 : 8 wire cable for connection from modem to Computer Ethernet Port./ addl router/
Para two:
Don't they re-use the wiring within the building/flat at least?
Normally NO. All NEW material only to avoid frequent customer complaints.
Airtel gives the connection say in your Computer . room.
If you want a parallel connection, in say, Bedroom ask them. They will make a new connection externally. ( all concealed in PVC pipes) The Junction Box will be locked. This is the procedure in Chennai.
IF you have concealed old telephone connections outlet in. computer room
Connect an rj 11 cable from Airtel port to one of these. All rooms will have Airtel connection
and you may have the same problem depending on the conditions of the concealed wires/outlet telephone ports. If you had surrendered BSNL connection no problem.
Else you have to disconnect the connection/s at main BSNL telephone BOX/Junction .
A high resistance contact is bad for telephone/internet connections.

Para three:
From Airtel Main Junction Box in the Flat complex. No access to users.
Airtel RJ11 box No 1: in my Computer room. distance 30 feet. Another RJ11 box No 2: fixed. nearby.
Cable (concealed in ( PVC pipes) taken to another bedroom 60 feet away.
Declined to give from Main Box distance say about 30 feet.
Used for providing extra telephone or computer use.

Same happens with me from abt a month now. Sometimes ADSL keeps flickring every 30-40 seconds. And SNR margin goes down to 8-9 or so. So I simply put phone off-hook and SNR margin jumps to 21. Its strange but works.

@essbebe, thanks dude for detailed information!Nice to know that I am not the only one who use such a strange workaround! So, there must be some reasoning behind it for sure...

My friend used to do the same. Actually he had lots of problems earlier (1 yr back) and he told me abt this observation/trick that time. I guess phone gets additional signal boost when u pick it up so that may be the case. Just guessing.

There is a D.C voltage about 40 to 60 V present in the telephone line, with the instrument on HOOK to receive incoming rings. When you lift the handset, i think it is disconnected .Means ADSL splitter Modem port is not effectively blocking it.
Condenser leakage ? D.C Voltage discharged ?
See Post 5 by @/member/motorazor143/
Will update with correct information after I do Google search, later.

Para two : after you got the "boost' replacing the handset back in the cradle, may nullify this. Check again. Measure the (voltage if possible ) SNR ATTN etc. etc.
a)Telephone handset in cradle .
b)Telephone handset OFF cradle.
C)Replaced after getting Internet connection.

putting receiver back doesnt disconnect. snr stays till 21but starts again after few hrs sometimes few mins
