The trick to watching this movie is to somehow toughen yourself up to suffer the first 40-50 minutes. That is until the scene where Tom hands himself over to the authorities. Because the movie picks up after that and it finally feels like a Mission Impossible movie. Before that its just nostalgia land and tonnes of exposition and constant repetition of dialogues.
This movie suffered development hell due to COVID and constant strikes. I wish they had tried to fix the first hour of the movie instead of just splicing scenes together. People are blaming McQuarrie, calling him a terrible director while forgetting he gave us Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning.
This is probably the last week that this movie will be available on IMAX. Catch it before it disappears to a normal-sized experience. It may not be the best MI movie, but it is still a lot of fun. The second half of the movie is insane.
