KYC documents is the main deal breaker here. You may not be able to complete ekyc if you walk into an Airtel store in a metro, but an unscrupulous mobile shop guy from a rural area can easily open a new sim account with the scan of an aadhaar card. Just a possible scenario. A large trove of KYC documents possibly in millions in this case is perfect for social engineering.
Yup. Most of us living in metros are used to proper kyc. Go to a small town... Things are totally different. Currently trying to get a nephew in Panipat to help create first id of my cook. Gurgaon mein impossible.
Despite the outrage, and tell-tale signs of a blunder, the company is in the denial mode and under the current laws, there is nothing that can possibly be done, even if highly sensitive information has been stolen.
cred is not like mobikwik or anything. and they do accept requests for account deletion. whether they do it or not is well...
i created an account. didn't like what they were offering. i started getting regular mails. i sent a bunch of emails. they said my account is scheduled for deletion. haven't received any mails in a while. but i am sure if i install it and try to login, it would very likely show my previous data. i don't want to do that though.
Mobikwik doesn't let you delete your account. But you may ask them for deactivation. Raised a ticket from the help section of the app for deactivation today. They will supposedly reply within 24 hrs.
