Despite furious growth in subscriber numbers, mobile service providers have accumulated losses of about Rs 10,000 crore. This is mainly due to low tariffs. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), average revenue per user (ARPU) is only Rs 384 per month for GSM mobile services and Rs 244 per month for CDMA services.
