More than 90 per cent of the landing station is owned by Airtel and Tata Communications.

But they won't remain sad for long time. They will cover expenses from us.

I do not see the situation changing anytime soon. The only new thing I have heard is about the Digha Landing Station, see West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation but as of yet it's vaporware.

DoT/GoI has selected Digha in East Midnapore district as the cable landing station for the submarine cable laying project connecting India and South East Asia.

But seeing that Mamta Banerjee is the CM I don't have much hopes. The sad part is that there are no non-profits I know who are exclusively dealing with broadband. The only one in a roundabout way would be 'CIS' The Centre for Internet & Society which occasionally uses RTI to bring things in the open.

Some months old article about what it would be if that link became operational.

For e.g. see this article The Coming Telecom Monopoly which sheds some light on what we see happening and the sad part even though we know we can't do anything about it (unless we are united and go out all guns blazing.)

Yeah. It's true. IT expansion needs a lot of money and more important support from political leader especially in India.

I have read somewhere in the news paper said by someone famous man. Broadband growth depends on CM of that state.
