If you have a rooted Moto E, you can get Lollipop now via this method.

Steps for updating to 5.0.2 [Non rooted & unmodified stock rom] :
1. Download ota zip file from xda forums (check source below)
2. Rename the downloaded file as "Blur_Version.22.21.32.condor_retaildsds.retaildsdsall.en.03.zip" if it is not already named as such.
3. Update "Motorola update services" app from play store.
4. Copy it to SD card as well as internal memory.
5[optional]. In stock recovery, clear cache (It's necessary). After clearing cache, reboot your phone.
6. Now, check for updates and you will get it !

A friend just said he got Lollipop 5.1 on his Moto E just today, he was on KitKat. Hadn't it not arrived?

Nope. AFAIK so far none of the Moto's phones here been updated to 5.1. Seems like MOTO E might be the first one. Motorola is also supposed to release a patch for Stagefright bug for all its devices. Wonder when will that happen.

Wait. Just read again. He was on KitKat? 5.0 update for Moto E was released long time back. He didn't update back then? :O

well the same happened with me no 5.0 update and I got the 5.1 update a week back

Yeah, he says he got the notification just today.

moto e 5.0.2 update was not released to general public. only few soak test users got it. 5.1 update was released to general public on 17th July and is being deployed in phases.
