I have been using Airtel Xstream Fiber for over two years but faced increasingly poor service over the past year with frequent disconnections and slow resolution.

I got fed up and asked them to disconnect. It's a long and tedious process but finally, they sent SMS that billing would be stopped.

Exploring alternatives in Hyd - Jio Fiber, Act, Excitel.

I used to have 200mbps plan for airtel, but have to settle for 150mbps in jio.

I have few questions regarding this. Let me know your suggestions/answers.

  1. I'm curious if Jio Fiber is still available for new connections. I tried booking online, but it redirects to Air Fiber, which many say isn't good. I submitted details via the Jio app but haven't received a call after 3 days. Act, on the other hand, has been calling relentlessly with 10 calls daily.
  2. Is the router page accessible in Jio fiber router? I usually change DNS, see connected devices, use mac id based blocking for few devices.
  3. Can we connect another router as a repeater or maybe even bridged mode?
  4. How's Jio's customer service? Twitter feedback indicates it's poor, with repetitive copy-paste responses that wait till jiofiber is fully rolled out in the country.
  5. I connect to my work laptop using office's VPN. Does jio block all VPNs?

Paid for Act and now nothing from installation team. ETA crossed no call or MSG. Act will keep calling you even after you have subscribed to their service lol. Seriously i recieved 10+calls from all sales but had to answer thinking it's installation.

Jio is only good for basic tv, streaming stuff. Wfh VPN sucks on it. You can access router but mostly all settings are locked and controlled remotely by jio.
Mac blocking is available even from their app. Changing dns may cause issues with their tv stuff. But their tv setup is really good compared to Airtel and act. Support is dumb af!

Airtel is also good only till it works, they don't even register complaints easily unless their backend detects issue and technicians are unprofessional. Very rigid system for technical support, technician blames NOC.

Overall it's a shit now and depends on your luck. I opted for act for a new connection as they are connected to internal lan and it will be a clean install.

@Smh No issues in TV even if we change DNS. And yes, support is dumb, but at least they don't ignore customers. Their attention can have negetive consequences though.

@Smh Airtel was good initially but has been a shit show now. I faced same issues with technicians too like you said. They don't even feel they have a job to do.
TV is not essential for me but heard good things about jio stb. Airtel provided Xstream stb but it's sluggish.
So did you have issues with jio and wfh VPN? Many of my neighbors and few colleagues use it, but they didn't say such thing.

Looks like I have to consider bsnl too 😁. I used it before corona times and it was better than airtel interms of disconnections.

@Zuke So jio's cc raise tickets or get the issue resolved once you call and tell them there's issue?

@trichola They try, but their people are too dumb or not given proper technical education to be able to do anything apart from- resetting/rebooting their ONT, replacing ONT, checking optical power etc.

If you face any issue which is related to their infra then they will only bother you while doing random shits.

Regardless, they do try and visit your home each time there is a service request generated, on time.

And any such infrastructure issues you face will be solved by them in their own time. You won't be told anything about it though.

Airtel installation team is usually good and will do the wiring properly if you insist a little. But customer support and assigned techs are horrible. And now they have started providing absolute crap ont/routers. Airtel TV is scam and very confusing.

Jio support is only trained to check stats on their app and anything outside regular SOP is completely out of scope. But its mostly same with all isp, very difficult to reach an actual engineer who knows anything. I really liked their TV offering.

ACT doesn't mess much with router and you can use your own with full control. But like me you may have to wait for the installation guys to have some mercy and complete the installation. Again technicians work independently and support has no control over them.
Sales and retention team has absolutely zero control over field technicians and thus they can only make promises and cannot help.
