yes! Lyk others have mentioned..change your router password. It's very easy to hack the Router password since many people use the Default password..n also MTNL user name and password can be Recovered from Modem's page.So better change the password and also Raise a complaint to MTNL..You should be very careful about Un authorized usage not only because of extra usage but also because people can involve into any Fradulent activity using your account which might end you in trouble.

I have already complained to MTNL.I changed my router password and my Broadband connection password and both are different. I do so regularly. But still the same problem. Is there any way to make sure that only my router Mac address has access to my account? Because as of now it is possible to connect to the account through any router as long as it is connected to the same phone line !!!shirish

which exchange ? And i think you are from Delhi coz

All Mumbai has Port binded already since 2006 -2007 :)

One question are u using wireless router?

Is there any way to make sure that only my router Mac address has access to my account?
Because as of now it is possible to connect to the account through any router as long as it is connected to the same phone line !!!

Ask this to mtnl Babus And Not to public coz they have authority to do it.

lol That what is called Port Binding

I am from Mumbai and i am on an Ericson exchange.NO Wireless - D-Link ADSL 502T Router connected to one computer.I can connect even when i use a different router. This should not be possible if the mac address is bound ???Is there a difference between Port Binding and Mac Address Binding?

some claim that even mac address is bound for mtnl.. and he had to ask mtnl to reset his connection or something like that.. i remember reading a thread like that some time back.. im unable to find it now..

So I am not the only one here alone then. My data usage for MTNL is completley wrong. Check it 2 days ago it was 3.2GB and yesterday it rocketed up to 5.4GB. My monthly limit is 5GB. They inflated my upload usage. Luckily on the MTNL's website when you log in there are 2 pages where you can check your usage. One of the page is showing the correct usage which is 3.7GB and the other is showing the wrong usage. I am not going to pay them .80paise/MB when it's clearly their fault. I did change my account's password on day 2 of getting the internet. funny thing is no matter what password I put in the modem, mtnl still connects to the internet as long as username is correct and I can assue you that no once crack my WPA2 encryption on my wireless router.

I have been using mtnl triband (mumbai) for a long time.

But recently i changed my username and pass in the router settings with my friends user name and password.(thnks to him for sharing it with me as he has unlimited plan)

After doing so i was able to successfully connect and use my friends account through my phone line.

That means you can log into anybody's account using anybody's phone line.

Is the authentication so weak as i have only tried with one connection.
If it is so then i guess every one should change their password from the default customer account no because any body can get hold of your CA no through your telephone bills.

Pls comment on this or share if u have tried any such things.

and i thought mtnl had disabled such connectivity by binding connections with the telephone numbers.
