As we already know that MTNL charges 50Rs. monthly for their ADSL router use. My question is, does MTNL grant ownership of this router to the user once it fully recoves the cost, say after 2 years?

MTNL doesnt transfer ownership. I think I already paid actual cost. But now i switched to combo plan, which has no rent.

That is why right from day 1 (2005), I opted to use my own h/w & take responsibility for its maintenance. BSNL has made an option where the ownership can be transferred to the user after some period (don't know exactly how much) for some payment.

well to me, rent is cheaper option. because when i took MTNL connection in 2006, it was costing 1800Rs. i paid 500Rs router deposit. so 1300 saved that time. and then 80Rs for 24months. so overall its one and same.

I made my purchase with a long term perspective in mind, if not MTNL then I most probably shift to another ADSL2+ provider if possible :). I have a dial up modem I purchased in 1996 and still use it in an emergency.

My view was basically, what if modem gets faulty or gets outdated. If its on rent MTNL will have to pay the cost.

The D-Link service center is in Vakola, for the WiFi I will give it to my friend who has promised to do the needful & give me a temp unit if necessary. :) Getting obsolete is a real danger but I think its still a long way off
