In my continuing saga of achieving a decent Triband speed, I again visited my local telephone exchange. I even took the router-modem with me. I talked about SNR and set speeds for my account. It seems, when my IPTV was connected, they had set the Data Rate at some 6128 and 512. This was to allow the TV signals to be received properly. However, this never happened and finally I had to give notice to disconnect my IPTV. Even tho this was done, my account was not re-set only for TRIBAND. Due to this, all the time, I would get poor speeds, due to reduced SNR. So IPTV clients beware, your internet speeds will reduce due to IPTV. In any case, my internet speeds continued to be poor and ADSL lamp would keep flickering. Now, they have decided to do what they should have done two weeks ago when I gave notice to disconnetc my IPTV. The account should have been reset to give lower Data Rate and therefore higher SNR. This was done due to my today' s visit. Now this is what I have:

As you all can see, the speeds have improved substantially. I have been using the internet for the past one hour and am reasonably happy.

Hope this will help others to do the needful if they have the same situation.

Best wishes.

Today it is thirteen days and I am reasonably happy.

Persistant pays. I have asked them now to upgrade my connection of DSL599 since I need 1GB. I am told this will be done current month when someone called to verify my phonetic request on #1500.

u have good SNR even for 2mbps, so u might want to ask them to upgrade to 2mbps instead of 512kbps

Currently, I am enjoying good service with my MTNL-Mumbai Triband service ... for the past three weeks.

Here are the specs ...

Seeing that things have stabilized for me, I took the optimistic risk of asking for an upgrade to the DSL599 plan, which allows me a 1 GB limit on the download. Ofcourse, even this is not enough since I am into video+music+news reviews and down-up loads.

However, this brings me to a query. Please see my message of 4-weeks ago, message #47. The 'Local/Remote Tx Power shows a below 1 db, while the current posting shows a 655 db value. How is this relevant? What is the significance?

Coming to @amish suggestion to request a upgrade to 2 Mbps download speed, I thought this needs to investigated first. It must be remembered that I had serious issues on 'continuity and availability' of service when I wrote the #47 message. Later this was resolved and for the past three weeks I have had 'very few and short duration' broadband downtimes. I am not keen to go thru all the trauma again after the MTNL techies increase my download speeds to 2 Mbps and, I again have 'flashing ADSL lamp', inability to logon to most weblinks, extremly slow actual speeds, etc. I have been there again and again and been burnt ... if you get me. I have no desire to get there again.

Another issue, tho the upload shows over 400 kbps, the actual speed varies between 150 and 350 during the day and night. So getting a 10 MB file out is still a problem (upto nine minutes). Can this be improved by changing something in the set up at the MTNL end?

Please comment.
