we are having BSNL Broadband connection in our office right now. The phone cable comes from the DP Box to a splitter. From there it goes to the modem. From the modem it goes to a networking I/O Box. Working fine right now.We are now planning to take additional broadband connection of VSNL also. Both would have different gateways. My requirements are as follows:1.Need to connect the two modems to the same network. Seperate cabling is not possible.2.Need to configure two network connections in certain client machines. One should be set as default.3.In case of a failure of connection 1, connection 2 should automatically become live.1.Is such a scenerio possible?2.What are the accessories that I would require to establish such an environment?3.Would it be a costly affair?Kindly help..Regards

We are now planning to take additional broadband connection of VSNL also. Both would have different gateways.
My requirements are as follows:

1.Need to connect the two modems to the same network. Seperate cabling is not possible.
2.Need to configure two network connections in certain client machines. One should be set as default.
3.In case of a failure of connection 1, connection 2 should automatically become live.

1. No problem.
2. You shouldn't need to configure the client machines at all. You'll need just a single router with 2 or more WAN ports, and the clients will use the router as their gateway. The router will then decide which connection to use and when.
3. That's the idea, but both would in fact be active simultaneously.

1.Is such a scenerio possible?
2.What are the accessories that I would require to establish such an environment?
3.Would it be a costly affair?

Kindly help..

Regards

1. Yes, it's possible.
2. You'll need a load balancing router with 2 or more WAN ports - Cisco has a lot of different options but...
3. Yes, these devices can be quite costly, and configuration is not for the faint of heart. Probably the most basic router I can think of for this purpose is something from the Cisco 1800 series, which cost around US$800 in the USA, but I'm not sure how much they cost in India - it has 2 WAN ports (so you can connect to 2 separate DSL modems, in your case one from BSNL, one from VSNL), and includes an 8 port switch and all the firewall and security features you can eat.
