Also look for local cablewala....I have 24 HD channels and I am paying 300/month for 2 SD and 1 HD STB with almost every sd channel
Wow, that's very cheap!

ok guys lets not deviate from the topic, I am specifically looking for a dvr, nothing less than that. cable is very unreliable in my area, i will refrain from it.

I have both Tata Sky & Videocon HD DVR - I must say that Videocon is very well priced & offers more Asli HD channels than most other DTH operators including Tatasky but their user interface is very poor & at times intolerable when compared to Tatasky, I shifted to Videocon mostly for the price factor but then retained the Tatasky in my bedroom mostly because of the user interface / EPG recording accuracy etc - Videocon's EPG is really screwed up & so is their customer care !
Videocon's STB also lags a lot & also freezes up at times, requiring a restart + not to forget that it heats up as well. I turn off the Videocon at night most of the times but Tatasky STB remains much cooler even after being on standby 24/7 + hours of operation on recording / playback recording etc. I probably have to restart Tatasky only once in 3 to 6 months or so for freezing issues
Otherwise the picture quality etc is good in both & no complaints about clarity on my 42' LED TV

My dear friend i am using TS for since the month of Launch....and i am using their PVR services for the last 5.5 years....When compared to D2H you might end up and paying extra but of Rs. 20 - 40 per month by using TS...but any problem TS is professional to solve the issues ASAP...i would say they are the best interms of customer service...D2H has got maximum HD channels i believe its 22 or 23 where as TS has got 11 or 12...TS could not add channels because they were not having sufficient bandwidth to add channels...but now TS is moving to MPEG 4 transmission and they are changing STBs of all the customers who are having MPEG 2 to MPEG 4 at free cost...TS is planning to move all the channels to MPEG 4 transmission as now they have moved quite a lot of regional channels to MPEG 4 and added 4 - 5 channels too.....this process would take another 6 months but simultaneously they will add channels...once swapping process of STBs complete ...TS would have lot of band with where in they can add more channels than Airtel or D2H...TS hardware is the best when compared to other especially D2H...
My word if you want to go for HD DVR then either go for TS or Airtel but dont go for D2H as their DVR sucks...

thanks guys this was really helpful, I have ordered a single dvr first, my parents will be using that, so I will wait for a month for their feedback in comparison to iptv we had earlier, and if all goes well I will order the second one.
