Okay,so I gave one full year for IIT JEE.Prepared really well.Scored well in tests conducted by my coaching but on the last day I messed up. :
I expected atleast 170-180 but landed up with 110 and as I belong to GENERAL category,I DIDNT EVEN QUALIFY FOR THE EXAMINATION I WAS PREPARING FOR!
It's been quite a long time since the results were announced but every now and then I feel really sad.I did perform well in "other" examinations (private and a state exam) but that doesn't change the fact that I messed up my main exam.
I know, not getting selected in IIT/NIT is not the end of world but still..theres some strange feeling.
I need some motivation to move ahead as I feel like I'm drowning in a depression state.
Any ideas to get rid of this? :

Consult with some doctor? Divert your minds towards something and keep yourself busy. That's all I can say.

It just might be a blessing in disguise. Do not lose hope.
In the meantime, are you looking at other good colleges?

I do have SRM,Manipal in hand and waiting for my state exam results.
And BITSAT on 22nd for which I'm pretty confident.

Go to ted.com and listen to a few talks. That's what I do when I am upset and I realize the futility of my sadness. And what great things people do and try to do. That reminds me admin, do we have a thread on ted talks?

Golden words right there.

Not to sound too "zen", but a lot of disappointment and sadness in life comes from unrealistic expectations. We all have a blue print of how our lives should be, but the reality is usually different. I'd advise you to read books, if you're into reading. Books about positivie thinking and it's effect. Try "Law of attraction" or "Seven habits of highly effective people" A lot of people have been in your situation and ended up doing a lot better than they expected.

Dude I am a NIT pass out and believe me most of the NITs are just namesake . You can look forward to Thapar or JP or PU. They are really good. And believe me if i am given a chance to redo my engineering i will never go back to a NIT. Even there are many other reputed colleges.

Yeap UPSEE.Engineering is basically my backup degree.I will go for civil services. If something happens then I will have B.Tech as a backup so that I can do M.Tech or MBA.I expected such marks only after giving a couple of exams and same/more difficulty and scoring in a good range.I never imagined a score like 300..instead I expected what I could get. Thanks for your suggestions. Will try ted.com right away
