Need Help regarding Data Plan.

Hi Guys! I am using iPhone 3g Firmware 2.2.0 unlocked Jailbroken, with Airtel Prepaid. I want to get a cheap data connection to check email and use maps when on the GO! I went to the Airtel office and asked them to activate NOP(Net on Phone) but they said it is not supported on my phone I have to get Mobile office which is 500 bucks as compared to 200 bucks for Net on phone. Any body know if I can use Airtel's NOP (EDGE) on my iphone. If not can anybody recommend any data plan that they know about. Thanks!
