I got my first Hathway connection back in 2022 using my main phone number and email. Fast forward to late 2024, I saw a flyer in my area promoting a new plan that seemed like a great deal. I contacted the same salesperson from 2022 to ask if he could migrate my current connection to the new plan.

He told me to call Hathway's billing team—and that turned out to be a nightmare. The customer support team had no clue what I was talking about and insisted that no such plan existed, despite me having the flyer in hand. To make matters worse, their AI bot kept hanging up on me mid-call. I eventually gave up on trying to switch plans the official way.

Instead, I called the number on the flyer. A different salesperson answered and said he could give me the new plan if I registered it as a "new connection." He said all he needed to do was replace the router, and he asked me to use an alternate phone number and email address. He also told me to lie and confirm it was a new connection if Hathway called to verify.

I followed through with that. There were some hiccups with Aadhaar verification, but after I submitted a photo and my driving license, the connection got activated.

The next day, he came over, took the old modem, and installed the new one. He didn’t touch the outside wiring—just unplugged the fiber from the old modem and plugged it into the new one. And that’s when the real problems started.

I began getting bombarded with spam messages and calls on my old number—endless offers, recharge reminders, and fake “limited-time deals,” even during my exams. Eventually, I emailed Hathway to complain, and after 4–5 months of this torture, the calls finally stopped.

By then, I had stopped recharging the Hathway connection and moved on to a different ISP. But now they’ve started calling my new number too. Literally just now I got a call to recharge as I'm typing this. I never officially submitted a disconnection request because the new salesperson had assured me he would handle the last connection—but clearly, he didn’t. When I check the Hathway portal using my old number, it still shows I'm eligible to recharge, meaning the connection was never actually terminated. Even the email from customer care saying my account was disconnected was false.

Now I have a Hathway modem just lying around collecting dust. But I know if I return it, it’ll probably make no difference—they’ll still keep calling.

TL;DR:
Tried upgrading my Hathway plan but was told it didn’t exist. New salesperson offered a workaround by registering a “new” connection using fake details. After installation, I started receiving nonstop spam calls on both old and new numbers. The old connection was never officially disconnected despite claims, and I still have their modem. I've now switched to another ISP, but the spam continues.

Has anyone else faced something similar?
  • Should I bother submitting an official disconnection request now, even though I already got a fake confirmation email?
  • Will returning the modem actually stop the spam, or will they just ignore it like before?
  • Is there a way to get them to truly delete my details from their system?
  • Any legal or consumer complaint options worth pursuing in this case?
Would really appreciate any advice or shared experiences. Thanks!

I guess you should officially disconnect the old connection, it doesn't matter if you used a "dummy" email for new connection they won't be interested in chasing you if your connection is terminated forever.
I think they're spamming you because on their portal it may show as "Not recharged" instead of Permanently disconnected/Terminated

I don't think there's any reason to go legal or anything better focus on exam bro

I did terminate the old connection. Look: Screenshot of terminated Hathway account

What I'm saying is when I try to login in their recharge postal with my old number, it still opens options to recharge. And it clearly shows my name. What is perplexing me is that I got an email that my account is terminated (screenshot above), then how am I able to login with my number and get recharge details? It must mean that my details are still present in their system.

It does show terminated in my old account, yet I can still login. On my new account, it doesn't show that obviously but I'm not using the new account which might explain the calls. But what irks me is that even if I terminate the new account by again typing another email to them - my second number will still be in their system right? So what's the point? They didn't delete my 1st no., what's stopping them from doing the same thing to my 2nd no.? The sales guy was a shady dude, which I understand now. He took my old modem, and didn't terminate that connection properly. So he might do the same thing now and take the new modem and just chill and not do anything. Just like last time.

Yeah, thanks brother. My exams went well. But it was a mental torture. Utter nuisance which was least expected. Or maybe I should've seen it coming. I want nothing to do with Hathway ever. I just hope they get bored and stop calling me (unrealistic, I know).

Update as of 19 July:

It’s been almost a month since I posted, and unfortunately, not much has changed. I’m still able to log in to Hathway’s portal with my old number, and it continues to show my name and recharge options—even though I got a “termination confirmation” email weeks ago. So yeah, pretty clear my details weren’t wiped from their system.

The spam calls on my new number haven’t stopped either. I’ve blocked a few, but they use different numbers each time so it’s a never-ending cycle. I haven’t returned the modem yet because honestly, I don’t believe that will change anything. The whole experience has been shady, and the trust is just gone now.

If anyone else has gone through something similar—or knows how to force actual data/account deletion from Hathway’s system—I'd love to hear it. Or if there’s any official route (consumer helpline, grievance redressal, etc.) that might actually work without draining my time, let me know. Otherwise, I’ll just keep ignoring the calls and hope they get tired eventually.

Update:
On July 25, 2025, I emailed Hathway requesting deletion of all my details for both connection IDs, termination of my account, activation of DND on my numbers, and no further calls. The next day, I got two emails: one saying my account was “terminated post device collection” and another confirming DND activation.

A technician (someone who had visited before for network issues) came to collect the router. When I asked if my details would be deleted from their portal, he hesitated but said it “would be done” and that he’d message the team about DND. Not convincing, but I was too tired to push further.

Good news: the spam calls stopped. Bad news: on July 31, I got a WhatsApp message from a personal number (not Hathway’s official one) asking me to recharge. I ignored it, but when I checked their recharge portal again, my account details—including both numbers—were still there and accessible just by solving a Captcha.

Even after their email claiming my details were deleted, my info is still live on their portal. Is there any way to get them to truly wipe my data? I’m getting concerned about my privacy here.
