new installation of dataone problem with user id or/and password

i got my dataone connection installed on the 15th, now without wasting time complaining and ridiculing bsnl's work-manner i'd like to come

straight to the point
the connection hasn't worked ever since installation
i got the error
"invalid user name or/and password"

however, when i tried checking my usage details @ BSNL - Broadband Account Management
(with another internet connection) i could successfully login with my portal-id and password
however for obvious it showed no usage in the current month

can anyone help me where could the problem lie.
why am i unable to connect and its thrwing up an invalid user id or/and password error

few pointers
1) the modem is configured correctly (plz don't post to re-configure it)
2) i used the user id WITHOUT @bsnl.in while trying to connect

i've also tried calling up the head of department of my local exchange, and as always, he's some pain in the
i've also filed a complaint @ the bsnl online portal

Modem/router/wifi : DNA A211-I
If you are using "Dialer" mode try
Always on" mode.
In WAN page edit deselect "Bridged'
select PPP/PPPoE etc.
Check Diagnostics.
Report Fail components. ( other than OAM5)

Test the connection to your local network
Test your ENET(1-3) Connection: FAIL
Test your ENET4 Connection: PASS

Test the connection to your DSL service provider
Test ADSL Synchronization: PASS
Test ATM OAM F5 segment ping: PASS (* may show FAIL for BSNL
Test ATM OAM F5 end-to-end ping: PASS (* may show FAIL for BSNL )

Test the connection to your Internet service provider
Test PPP server connection: PASS
Test authentication with ISP: PASS
Test the assigned IP address: PASS
Ping default gateway: PASS
Ping primary Domain Name Server: PASS

Para two:
In Usage portal you can change your USERID PW
Re-enter old PW again.

There are 2 IDs, Portal ID and User ID. In the modem, you need to enter user ID and in portal ID. Hope you have not mixed them.
