Free ott apps with YouTube offers a lot of content, almost all typical mom TV shows with one day delay is available but with much less ads and flexibility to choose when to watch.

Avg Internet speed is better now and very common at many households because someone is doing wfh or something, it is not an extra cost just for tv.


Even elder people once they get hang of ott they like that watching old movies, song etc. Instead of watching same toxic news on loop.

Using setup box is very simple and that's the main advantage but it's getting expensive and difficult to get the all in one package. This happened because of TRAI previous changes.

I am still unable to grasp why the rules were changed back in 2019. This is already out of my scope.
Nevertheless, wherever there is a revenue sharing agreement, hike in prices will have an impact on how the revenue is to be shared.

I am not sure what is the issue with Cable operators and Media houses, but I want to give real life example.
Few months back new Marathi Movie channel was launched (in SD, not HD). It was available for Re. 1/month on DTH. But my relative's cable operator was charging Rs 7 or Rs 15 for same channel. Cable operator even randomly added or removed channels even after some form for channel subscription was filled and given to him.
So Cable operators are still unregulated and at few places and they charge insane amounts.

@doineedto Think of how the cable television was back in 2010s. There weren't addon packs or any such things back then. Everyone got every content, regardless of their choice. While, seeking through channels, we used to get some information. The proper newspaper covers all the topics, it doesn't limit someone from reading other headlines in the newspaper. But, the television media is not so. With each and every entertainment channel having it's own subscription, someone needs to be a member of all in order to view. I'm having a subscription of almost all major OTTsm but the point is switching between the OTTs is not easy.

Yes. It seems to be a easy cake for all youngsters, as they get these for relatively lower prices. But, what all of us don't understand is that we are missing out major stories because of the user interface, which allows to watch only one channel at a time.

Again, Internet is dependent on the ISP, you have to call the customer care if there is a breakage. But, LCO is to be contacted in case of cable television, which is easily approachable and fast.

Cable back in 2010 was how OTT was a few years back. Nearly most of the content was available on a select few providers. I presume there was channel selection back then too, just that maybe the LCO did the selection, and you were given a default pack.

Newspapers don't limit the reader from accessing other headlines, you are free to watch whatever content is available on the platform. Just as the what content is available on the platform cannot be controlled, what news was printed in which paper could not be controlled!

There still are free to air channels which will give you content, which are available on any medium you choose, be it DTH/LCO cable or internet. You can stop every subscription, and can still access news, entertainment and what not.

That is a very subjective statement. You feel that the LCO is approchable. I feel that the ISP support is better

At the end of the day, the basic principle of life is to adapt to survive. And unfortunately, it is true even for consuming content. Technology is going to change - even at a faster pace going forward - and we have to adapt to it. We don't really have a choice.

What regulation did TRAI bring in? They made it such that a subscriber should pay for what he wants to watch. And, certain other news channels are provided for free in the default pack. The majority of the customers, in India, would not subscribe a news channel which would be anti-government, this is because, the government never wants it to be free. A newspaper, also in that case. You need to pay to get the throughly researched and exact content not just exaggerated news. Depending on OTTs would mostly disconnect the customers from major news, and you can't rely on half baked news on the internet for everything.

Remember that back when you go back to your childhood, you will agree that the content provided on FTA basis by DD and other private partners were qualitatively better at times. There was a value that was added. I really don't know how with the OTTs you will be able to switch to other content simultaneously, though you call yourself a next gen fast kid.

It's just that you have a smart phone in your hand, and that is not all the technology that's in the world. Believe me inventions like Television and Cable are here to stay, but cheap competition from the OTT platforms will make the former costlier and far reach for all.
