For the past couple of days, my Torrent download speeds have reduced considerably and there is a lot of packet loss when I ping any of the DNS servers or the MTNL gateway (or any other IP address other than 192.168.1.1) at night. This does not happen during the day. Download speeds from link-removed or link-removed are fine (190-200 kBps) at night. Speedtest.net gives a result of 1.75 Mbps download from the Mumbai server. Websites like google and this forum only respond after repeated requests.

Here are my ping statistics from around 2:30 AM on August 17:

Ping statistics for 203.94.227.70:
Packets: Sent = 70, Received = 48, Lost = 22 (31% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 80ms, Maximum = 982ms, Average = 586ms

Here are my ping statistics from around 2:00 PM on August 17:

Ping statistics for 203.94.227.70:
Packets: Sent = 132, Received = 132, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 162ms, Average = 17ms

My ADSL stats are as follows (with modulation G.dmt):

SNR Margin 28 25 dB
Line Attenuation 20 12 dB
Data Rate 2048 256 kbps

The numbers with multi-mode are different (better SNR and line att.) and data rate of 2013 and 260 but the results are basically the same. I'm on the Cumballa Hill exchange.

Has anyone else faced this problem? The only situation I could find online that resembles mine is this thread from 2006.

I've been downloading about 2.5 GB per night since I started the 849NU plan this month. I don't know if that has something to do with it. I hope not.

Thanks.
