NEW DELHI: The stage is set for confrontation between Nimbus and state-owned Prasar Bharati over the sharing of live feed of the upcoming Indo-Pak Test series. Both the countries are scheduled to play a three-match Test series and a five-match ODI series starting November. Nimbus Communications CEO Harish Thawani said, “We will not be sharing the Indo-Pak test series as we are not bound to share a live feed with Prasar Bharati under the new Sports Broadcasting Signals Bill.” However, when ET contacted, a senior Doordarshan official refuted his claim and said, “Under the Sports Broadcasting Signals Bill-2007, every sport event of national importance has to be madatorily shared with Prasar Bharati. Since this cricket match is being held in India, it is implied that this is an event of national importance.” The official added that if Nimbus does not share the live feed with Prasar Bharati, it will be violating the sports broadcasting bill. “We will take it up with concerned authorities to ensure that Nimbus shares live feed with us,” the official said. Mr Thawani though has a point as the Sports Broadcasting Bill-2007 does not clearly states what is an event of national importance.
