no web site opends but torrents are normal ?

i have a ul 900 bsnl connection with 256 kbps

i want to configure it to be always on as it is unlimited so that i dont have to set up any dial up and it remains on when i switch on the computer

i figured it could be done with changing the interface set up in http://192.168.1.1 from bridged to the pppoe/pppoa

i did that provided my password and username
but here is the problem

i am assigned an ip and get it working to gateway

i can download by torrents and download managers
but i cannot surf any web site
nothing opens whereas the torrents can be downloaded

so what shud i do to make my conection always on
what am i missing

surely a DNS problem..go to your modem configuration.. go to the DNS section.. and enter the following two ips.. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

What is the modem model you are using ?

Change MTU only to 1492 or 1480 and try

The highest MTU that one can have is 1500. For users with PPPoE connection software, 1492 and lower. Without PPPoE, it should default to 1500. "Defaults" to on (same as Yes) in Win98/98SE/ME/2K/XP/NT[/Quote ]

trying to find the keys !
Read post 2 and 3 again, and give info asked specially about startup programs which appear in the TaskBar bottom right hand side near the time and VOL icon
1.Did You try the DNS ?
2. Did you try the MTU change ?
3. What is the version of FireFox you are using ?
4. Start/ run type cmd when a new page opens
type ipconfig/all Copy and paste it here. for further comments./help.
5. start run type cmd type: ping Google
give the result/s.
