For the past 5-6 days i am unable to connect to the net..an error message says "the remote computer did not reespond in a timely manner.."..and after 4-5 trials , when i manage to connect, the speed is ultra-low..something very unusual for a broadband connection...is this happening because of the cable blast that happened somewhere in the seas..when is it expected to be resolved...please throw some light on this..

Hello muddu88

The slow speed is likely due to the submarine cable cut (not blast! :o ). It should be resolved soon.

But the first suggests there's some issue with your configuration.

[*]Can we have a screenshot of SNR and Attenuation figures. Are they higher than 'usual'?

[*]Are you using the splitter?

[*]Which mode are you using to connect? PPPoE or Bridge mode?

hey hey...i'm not all that tech-savvy :)..i just know that it ws running fine before the cable cut and post the event this error message started troubling me..even if there is a problem with the configuration, first i'll not be able to track it and second i'll not be able to resolve it, the technically deprived person that i am..in the beginnng i was getting that win32 generic error message and then i installed sp3...it was running fine after that...so hopefully there isnt a configuration problem

"the remote computer did not reespond in a timely manner.."

This message has nothing to do with cable cut. The cable cut is outside India and the login servers of BSNL are in India. So you should be able to connect in normal time, but thereafter the speeds may be low.

SNR is signal to noise ratio. When you login to your modem (type 192.168.1.1 in address bar) you will see something called system information. This page will have SNR, attenuation values. Take a screenshot and post here.

Usually if there is noise in line (doesn't have to be audible) it can cause issues you are facing.

About PPPoE mode or Bridge mode: Are you using a dialer software to connect? Or does the ADSL modem automatically connect when you power it on?
