The radiation zone was fake. Iirc, ploy used by the alien (right?), to prevent Cruise from venturing too far out and encountering one of his clones. Clones to ensure that the actual humans don't win back the planet.

Cruise, his wife and the lady. All were part of a NASA expedition. At the end, the Cruise shown throughout the movie, dies (not sure) and one of his clones returns to the wife.

Idk if she knew. We don't either. AFAIK, original Cruise isn't shown in the movie.
You should watch the movie once more, you have missed the whole thing.
the living partner was thinking that they were going to their home in one week, after every week they were replaced by a new set of clones exactly looking the same, so no new couples will rebel as every new set of clones will be thinking they are going home in 1 week.
in the so called radiation zone too the same set of pairs are cloned, and kept apart. probably these pairs are all over the earth, but never know each other nor met before cruise bumps into the other.

Yup. Clones think humans are orbiting the earth whereas Its the aliens who's orbiting the earth till they mine the earth resources fully. Morgan freeman and his tribe are the actual humans engaged in battle with the aliens. Whole earth has been divided into sectors and each sector has one tower with one tom cruise and one other lady clone. they disguise the other sectors as radiation zones so that the clones would not meet each other and realise they're clones.
In the end, the original clone goes to alien ship and blows it up. Good visuals ..one the good movies you should definitely watch in Blu ray.
