OpenWRT compatible router in 2022

I am looking for a new router that is OpenWRT compatible and has good WiFi range. Initially I was considering TP-Link Archer A7, but it has a single core CPU and also seems outdated being launched a number of years ago.

Now Archer A6 V3 also seems to supported by OpenWRT now. It is dual core, but is more like an entry level router.

I also looked a Asus routers, but ASUS 58U does not really seem to be available now.

Are there any other routers that I can consider, which are OpenWRT compatible and have a good WiFi range?

Wireguard is not exactly that taxing as OpenVPN, thanks to it overtly optimize encryption algo. The body has never really been hot.
For Streaming Purpose for one user, 20-25Mbps is good enough. If you are hoarding yourself a Jellyfin or Plex Server and you plan to share with other with one more or 2, 30-40 works.
Best solution would be to go for a Streaming Server from the seedbox folks. I use ultra.

I recently noticed that there are refurb Dell Optiplex Micro Form Factor PCs available on Amazon for decent prices. The below one for example comes with an 8th Gen i3, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD.

These come with only a single ethernet port, but if you use VLANs and a managed switch, you can use it as a single port router, ofcourse WAN/routing throughput would be limited to the 1 gbps half duplex. Compact unit and would consume around 10w.

You can even add another USB ethernet port too.

If you want to differentiate Archer C6 v3 to v4 look for WPA3 support, if that's listed then its v4

Took my archer A6 (o-wrt) to my office DC. Did not think it'd be able to do 1G sustained...
This is NAT+max duplex load at 1500MTU.

even I get 550-570mbps on wifi of archer a6, pretty solid router at this price point.

I want to get a gigabit wifi router for openwrt under Rs.3000/-
I see A6 and C6 as the most mentioned here. Can someone share the difference between these two?
I would also like to mention that this new router will be used as an access point rather than the actual router

@raaron773 Go for the Mi Router 4A, it's only Rs 1499 (as of now from FK). Same hardware as the Archer A6/C6 at-least from a CPU/Memory/Flash perspective.

With the Archer, if you get the v4, then it is not supported by OpenWRT. Mi Router 4A is a safer bet. You can get two for your budget and use two APs.
